When you first moved into your current home, you probably loved it.  It was likely an empty space, filled with nothing but possibility and hope.  How come when you look at it now, you see nothing but wasted space and junk you no longer use?  That’s easy.  When you live in a place for a while, you accumulate clutter and clutter reduces the living space in your home.

Almost everyone has some furniture, appliances and knick knacks that do nothing but take up space in their home.  They haven’t used them in years and they make their home feel cluttered, unorganized and messy.  Removing these unwanted items can definitely make your home feel more spacious.

The first step is to determine what you no longer need.  If something is worn or damaged and cannot be repaired, it’s probably best to get rid of it.  The same can be said for items you haven’t touched in more than a year.  For some people tossing these items into the garbage can be a painful experience, but it is one that will make you feel much better about yourself and your home.  Would you rather have a pile of old clothes or room to relax in your new spacious den?

Furniture removal and appliance removal are two big steps that can help open up your home.  Maybe you’re keeping an old couch with a few holes in it in your basement.  Maybe you have a spare refrigerator in the garage that doesn’t work anymore.  These things are junk!  Get rid of them.

Junk removal services are the easiest way to dispose of unwanted items.  You can arrange for a garbage removal company to come to your home and help you with the clean up, or you can rent dumpsters or garbage bins and start filling them yourself.  Either way, garbage removal is a great process that will make you love your home once again.

Another great way to clean up your home is to remove the junk from your basement.  Many basements are filled with items that can only be classified as garbage.  You probably have boxes of old clothes that you can donate and several old newspapers, carpets and small appliances that you can throw away.  A good basement clean out can open up all kinds of new spaces within your home.  You can finally build the home bar, den or game room you’ve always wanted.

You may also want to look into carpet removal.  If you’ve lived in your home for a long time, your carpet may be worn, faded and dirty.  Replacing the carpet or installing new floors instead will make your living space feel brand new.

There’s just something satisfying about watching your home reveal its true self while dumpsters and garbage bins fill up.  You’ll wish you’d done it years ago!

One Of Our Favorites!

This song was released in 1970 by now Sir Paul McCartney and we dig it. We thought it was particularly appropriate for our junk blog. Does anyone out there have any good memories listening to this song?

Walk for Miracles

Junk It was there once again, supplying dumpsters to Walk for Miracles on June 12 in Toronto. Another very worthy cause that Junk it was proud to be a part of.

The Walmart Walk For Miracles is an annual event which helps Children’s Miracle Network raise funds for 12 children’s hospital foundations across Canada. All dollars raised, fund life-saving care, ground breaking research and special programs designed to offer the highest quality care to sick and injured children. Children’s Miracle Network has raised more than $3 billion for children’s hospitals since its inception in 1983. Last year alone, Children’s Miracle Network member hospitals in Canada helped over 2.6 million children.

Each year you can join your friends and neighbours for a family-friendly 1 km or 5 km walk at one of twelve walk sites across Canada – or at your own Virtual Miracle Walk site – and help raise funds for Canada’s children’s hospitals.
This is an annual event, so let’s all get out there next year and help support this worthy cause!

Please visit Walk for Miracles for more information on times, locations, and how to donate .

Storage or Junk Removal?

Junk RemovalOne reason people have clutter is that they are storing items in their home.  They may even have a storage room.  The problem is that if you keep putting things into a storage room you eventually get to a point where you can’t fit anything else.  That’s when you need to start getting rid of items instead of storing them.

Of course, another option is to rent out a storage locker or storage facility and place all of the items that are cluttering up your home in that facility.  It sounds like a good answer.  You get the junk out of your house and you don’t have to throw it away.  It’s always there if you need it.  Ultimately, that’s the problem.  You don’t need it.  You likely never will.

Storage lockers are great short-term solutions.  If you’re moving or renovating it’s a good idea to place your items in a storage facility.  They also prove useful for people living in apartments or small homes.  For just about everyone else though, they’re really just an extension of your clutter.

The problem with storage facilities is that your junk is out of sight and out of mind.  Most people don’t use these places as temporary storage or for seasonal items.  Many people rent a storage locker, fill it with stuff and never think about it again.  The issue is that while you’re items are sitting in a locker somewhere, the bills are mounting up.  You’re now paying for your junk on a monthly basis.

Before you rent a storage locker, stop for a moment and figure out exactly what you’re going to store there.  Also think about whether or not you will ever need to access these items again.  If you really can’t see yourself heading back to the locker to get the materials out, you should really think about throwing them away.

When compared with the monthly costs associated with renting a storage locker, the price of junk removal is negligible.  And you won’t just be saving money.  You’ll have the piece of mind knowing that you’ve finally cleared out your clutter for good.  You won’t just be moving your junk around, you’ll be getting rid of it and starting fresh.  That’s a good feeling.

Rent a Garbage Bin or Dumpster When Renovating

Garbage Bin and Dumpster RentalWhen you’re renovating your home, whether you’re tearing down walls or just replacing your carpet, a junk removal service can make the process much easier.  A great way to make the clean up process faster and more efficient is to rent a dumpster or a mini bin while you’re working.  There are several advantages to this.

First of all, you’ll be able to throw out all of your garbage as you create it.  You won’t need to move everything from the floor, to a truck to a dump.  Simply throw everything right in the dumpster and you’ll only have to move it once.  The junk removal company will come and pick up the dumpster when you’re done with it, so you’ll only have to move your construction waste once.

Second of all, this will make it easier for you to perform the actual renovations.  If you throw everything you no longer need out of the house and into a dumpster on your driveway, you’ll be freeing up space within the home.  You won’t have to worry about stepping around debris while you’re working.

That brings us to the third advantage: it’s safer.  When renovating it’s very easy to slip or trip on materials.  This becomes even more true when you’re tearing down walls, ripping out counters and cabinets or replacing flooring.  With garbage, trash and unwanted material laying everywhere, it’s easy to trip on something and hurt yourself.  Clear that stuff out of the way and place it in a dumpster before anyone gets hurt.

Junk It rents disposal bins in a variety of sizes.  For carpet removal or minor home renovation projects, you may only need to rent a smaller bin.  For major projects, there are larger bins that will suit your needs better.  All bins have low walls for easy loading and they won’t damage your driveway.

Having a dumpster on site when renovating definitely makes the process safer and the clean up faster and easier.

Clean Your Backyard & Remove Yard Waste

Spring Cleaning

Once the winter ends, you probably look at your backyard and wonder exactly what happened.  A long, snowy winter can cause havoc on a yard.  Not only will your grass be dead, but many of your bushes and flowers will be suffering as well.  You’ll likely also have tree branches and other debris littering the area.  The worst is that, when the snow melts, you’ll probably find all kinds of miscellaneous pieces of garbage that blew into your backyard and were buried by snow.  Newspapers, candy wrappers, chip bags and pop cans have a way of hiding under the snow and appearing months later to ruin the look of your backyard.

Depending on the level of mess, you may need to rent a dumpster or disposal bin to get rid of it all.  Sometimes you need to make a decision regarding the vegetation and plant life in your yard.  Unfortunately, your favourite rose bush or your prized perennials may have been damaged during the winter.  If your green thumb can’t revive them, it’s best to dig them out, dispose of them and start again.

The same goes for trees.  If the branches have been damaged during the winter, you may need to do some trimming.  Cutting off branches before they fall can save you a lot of time and potential destruction later.  A damaged tree branch falling during a particularly windy day can seriously injure someone or damage property.

Once you’ve trimmed what needs to be trimmed, dug up what needs to be dug up and cleaned what needed to be cleaned, you can throw everything you no longer need into the garbage bin and start spring with a clean, waste-free backyard.

Junk It rents garbage bins and dumpsters in various sizes, from mini-bins to large dumpsters.  All of our bins are easy to load and they won’t damage your driveway.  And, when you’re done, our experienced junk removal team will take the bin away!  Cleaning out your yard is an excellent way to start the spring.
