We have received a few calls this week from people concerned that they may not have enough junk for it to be worth their while and that they might just wait until they accumulate a huge pile of garbage before they request a bin service. But, you don’t have to wait that long!

Using a junk removal service does not necessarily mean that you have to hoard your junk before you call us. If you want to get rid of a couple things to make your life clutter free, we can do that for you! Our full service is perfect for single item junk removal or if you have small amounts of garbage you wish to get rid of. If you want to go for a bin rental, we have four different bin sizes that you can choose from; 5, 10, 15 and 20 cubic yards. The sizes of the bins are all the same length and width with the only varying factor being the height. Respectively our bin heights range from 1.5 ft, 3 ft, 4 ft, and 5 ft high. We can either drop a bin off so you can fill it yourself (self service) or we can come to your location and do it for you (full service)! I will admit that up until last weekend my Christmas tree still decorated my living room. I also found out that I wasn’t the only one reluctant to put it away. Sure it makes your living room look wonderful and festive. It has this warm glow that you wished you could have all year round. But although we love our Christmas decorations and the happiness they provide us, in reality we don’t want to take them down because it’s too much of a hassle. There isn’t enough space in the closet, garage or furnace room to shove all the decorations because they are already over-flowing with boxes. What to do?

First of all I found that getting rid of some of those old boxes is the best way to start. It’s not the most motivating idea I have ever had but getting rid of stuff you don’t use and making space for stuff that you do use is rewarding in itself. I was browsing styleathome.com one day and came across some wonderful ideas on how to organize your Christmas decorations and store them away properly. I cleared out the mess that was my closet, put up some shelving, bought some clear storage containers with dividers for every single ornament and got to work. The end result was fantastic. Self Service Questions Answered

Last week we discussed how great our customer service is (even check us out on homestars) and what to expect with a full service. With it being a huge hit we’ve been specifically asked to write a bit about our self service bin rentals and what it entails.

You might wish to take some time to dispose of your junk and if that’s the case then self service is the perfect option for you. The costs involved with self service vary but at the end of the day you will be charged to separate items; a bin rental fee and a weight disposal charge.

The first step is for you to pick the size of the bin you wish to rent. We have 5, 10, 15 and 20 yard bins. Each bin is 8’ by 14’ and the only variation is the height of the sides which range from 1.5’, 3’, 4’ and 5’ respectively. If you aren’t sure which size is best for you, just contact us. Our representative will be more than happy to help you out.

Once you’ve chosen the bin that best suits your needs, your postal code is used to determine an accurate quote by both our website and our representative (if you are calling).

We then deliver the bin on the day you requested, laying down a temporary wood platform on your driveway for protection. You can also order a tarp to cover the bin to account for any weather that may affect the weight of your bin at a low cost of $29.99 which you get to keep at the end of the project. Once set up, you can load up your junk by simply walking right in. No need to strain to dump stuff over the high walls. Make sure to keep the junk at the same level as the side of the bins so we can cover it and transport it safely once you are done. Please be advised that no toxic, corrosive, flammable or poisonous materials are allowed in the bin. This includes paint cans, car batteries, gas etc. If you are unsure, give us a call.

Take your time and we will pick it up whenever you are ready. Need extra days? Give us a call and we can extend your rental as needed. Need an early pick up? Not a problem, we can do that too.

When the bin is ready to be picked up, our crew will arrive on the scene. You don’t even need to be home. They will go get your junk weighed down to the second decimal and get it disposed of. A weight ticket is issued which is then charged to you at a cost of $99 per metric tonne. On both the bin rental and weight charges, a sales ticket is emailed to you. If you wish, we can also scan the weight ticket and email you that as well.

Letting someone into your home is daunting and can be scary because let’s face it, it’s hard to trust people. But this is why JuNK iT! takes their customer service seriously and makes 100% sure that you will feel comfortable letting our crew into your home when you order a full service.

Here is a break down of our procedure so you know exactly what to expect when you hire JuNK iT!

Our driver’s aren’t just hired out of the blue. They go through vigorous interviews and have Criminal Record Checks performed to make sure that the person you are letting into your home is respectful and reflects the values of our company. Upon hiring, they go through extensive training to make sure they are capable of performing the job at hand.

When you call JuNK iT! your call will always be answered by a person who can answer any questions you may have. If you wish to continue with the procedure, our driver’s are told where and when you wish to receive your no obligation quote. Thirty minutes prior to their arrival within the 2 hour window of arrival that is given to you, our driver’s will call you to make sure you are home.

If you are home, the crew will arrive in uniform so you can easily identify them. If the junk is inside your home, our driver’s will put on boot covers to ensure they don’t leave a messy trail behind. They will provide you with a no obligation quote in which you can choose to continue with or refuse. If you accept the offer, they require your signature in order to proceed with the project. Once the junk is removed, our driver’s will do a quick sweep and ensure the area looks presentable. Upon completion, payment is due on site and another signature. You will then be provided with an invoice and receipt. Last but not least, we leave a little fridge magnet behind!

Well it is that time of the year again. The last long weekend of the summer is just around the corner. Our Self Service bins will be in high demand with many of you taking advantage of the extra time over the long weekend to complete all of your renovations and cleanups for the season. If you are planning a clean up for this weekend than do not delay, booking a junk removal appointment or renting a dumpster, as you may miss out.

Junk Raiders Cast

Junk Raiders is a reality television show that airs on the Discovery Channel in Canada and Ion Television in the United States. The show features a team of seven people with one goal: renovate a downtown Toronto factory into a high-end loft. The catch is that they only have one month and $5000 to do it!

It’s a process that is as difficult as it sounds.

When the Junk Raiders needed a disposal bin, they called Junk It. In episode three of the series they cleaned out the factory, throwing out a large amount of construction material and waste. Junk It was there to provide the dumpster. Since the team had a very small budget and a tight time frame to complete their task, it was important to them that the junk disposal was fast, efficient and affordable.

Junk It was able to get on site quickly and the cost of the disposal bin left the team with most of their budget intact.

The team went on to completely renovate the space. Many of the materials they used were recycled from those who no longer wanted them.

Some other interesting facts about the Junk Raiders TV show:

In order to prepare for the show and have enough free materials to complete the job, the team set up a junk hot line and requested donations from the people of Toronto
Going through people’s trash to salvage for items is illegal in Toronto. The show received a special exemption to do so.
The team was made up of seven people. Two were considered “freecyclers” and they focused on saving, recycling and salvaging materials whenever possible. The other five members were termed “wasters.” They consisted of the owner of an electronics store, an interior designer, a general contractor, a labourer and a builder.
