Christmas Organizing Ideas

I will admit that up until last weekend my Christmas tree still decorated my living room. I also found out that I wasn’t the only one reluctant to put it away. Sure it makes your living room look wonderful and festive. It has this warm glow that you wished you could have all year round. But although we love our Christmas decorations and the happiness they provide us, in reality we don’t want to take them down because it’s too much of a hassle. There isn’t enough space in the closet, garage or furnace room to shove all the decorations because they are already over-flowing with boxes. What to do?

First of all I found that getting rid of some of those old boxes is the best way to start. It’s not the most motivating idea I have ever had but getting rid of stuff you don’t use and making space for stuff that you do use is rewarding in itself. I was browsing styleathome.com one day and came across some wonderful ideas on how to organize your Christmas decorations and store them away properly. I cleared out the mess that was my closet, put up some shelving, bought some clear storage containers with dividers for every single ornament and got to work. The end result was fantastic. My closet was organized and because the containers were clear I knew what the contents of each one was. This even inspired me to make the rest of my house look the same way. So if you end up cleaning out your closets, furnace rooms or garage and find you need a junk removal company be sure to check out our prices at junkit.ca where we can help you make this process a hassle free one.

Explosive Demolition – The Best of 2002

It’s getting colder outside and I’m losing my will to dress up warm like a Michelin man so instead I laze around on my couch on the weekends and flick through YouTube videos. So it was really only a matter of time before I discovered an amazing demolition video that shows the best building implosions of 2002. It’s incredible how they place the explosives at the right points in order for the building to collapse in on itself without wrecking anything next to it. Most of the buildings are in populated areas and it’s mind blowing (no pun intended) to witness such perfection. Has anyone witnessed a demolition? How do they perform the clean up? I’m thinking it would probably take about 100 JuNK iT trucks to even make a dent! I hope you enjoy the video.

Fun Fact of the week: The two factories of the Jelly Belly Candy Company produces approximately 100,000 pounds of jelly beans a day. This amounts to about 1,250,000 jelly beans an hour.

Reducing Your Waste

Environmental Protection Agency stated that the average household American produces about 4.4 pounds of garbage a day, or a total of 29 pounds per week and 1,600 pounds a year.  Apparently, although that’s a lot of garbage, Mexican’s produce 30% more garbage than Americans!

Recycling is a big part of reducing waste. Make sure when you are de-cluttering that you donate items that can be re-used. Make sure that you recycle your newspapers, aluminum containers and certain plastics. Another way to help with reducing waste is to buy less, buy things in smaller packages, and reuse what you have. This will drastically reduce the amount of garbage going into the landfills.

For the rest of your waste call JuNK It! and we will help you dispose of it properly and without any hassle. Call us today and book your bin.

vintage oil cans

Junk It is a huge fan of American Pickers. It’s only natural, we both deal with junk! If you aren’t a fan of the show then you should be! We are all familiar with antique dealers who buy and sell antiques from a store but we aren’t too familiar with how the antiques get there in the first place! Thanks to Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz, antique pickers are now in the spotlight. Their episodes are laden with beautiful sceneries, laughter, frustration and amazing finds! You get to experience the thrill and adventure behind antique picking as they travel across states, meeting collectors, hoarders, amateur historians and down-right dirty and dangerous sheds, each with amazing stories to tell.  They race against time encountering left over from other pickers, scraping through jewels and junk in order to find “the one.” Each and every treasure they uncover is like a new history lesson, providing everyone a glimpse into the distant past of the American life.

It’s a risky business and sometimes the best pickers buy the biggest junk. But sometimes, another man’s junk is another man’s treasure. Not so long ago, Junk It found these amazing old oil cans in one of their bins! Strangely enough, Frank Fritz from American Pickers LOVES old oil cans. In a quick video about his love for oil cans, he says that some that are full and in good condition can go for thousands! Although the ones we found seem pretty beat and are long gone by now, it reminded us of Frank and how history can be found in the craziest places. Maybe next time we will call Frank and Mike to crawl around in our dumpsters! YIKES! I don’t think so!

One Of Our Favorites!

This song was released in 1970 by now Sir Paul McCartney and we dig it. We thought it was particularly appropriate for our junk blog. Does anyone out there have any good memories listening to this song?

In the past, the National Underwear Day festivities have gone from Times Square takeovers, where underwear-clad models mingled with tourists and New Yorkers alike, to star-studded underwear runway shows.

Come on Toronto! Let’s get involved. We at JuNK iT support this worthwhile annual event. To honour this event, we ask that everyone who orders our service today wears only their underwear.
