When you first moved into your current home, you probably loved it.  It was likely an empty space, filled with nothing but possibility and hope.  How come when you look at it now, you see nothing but wasted space and junk you no longer use?  That’s easy.  When you live in a place for a while, you accumulate clutter and clutter reduces the living space in your home.

Almost everyone has some furniture, appliances and knick knacks that do nothing but take up space in their home.  They haven’t used them in years and they make their home feel cluttered, unorganized and messy.  Removing these unwanted items can definitely make your home feel more spacious.

The first step is to determine what you no longer need.  If something is worn or damaged and cannot be repaired, it’s probably best to get rid of it.  The same can be said for items you haven’t touched in more than a year.  For some people tossing these items into the garbage can be a painful experience, but it is one that will make you feel much better about yourself and your home.  Would you rather have a pile of old clothes or room to relax in your new spacious den?

Furniture removal and appliance removal are two big steps that can help open up your home.  Maybe you’re keeping an old couch with a few holes in it in your basement.  Maybe you have a spare refrigerator in the garage that doesn’t work anymore.  These things are junk!  Get rid of them.

Junk removal services are the easiest way to dispose of unwanted items.  You can arrange for a garbage removal company to come to your home and help you with the clean up, or you can rent dumpsters or garbage bins and start filling them yourself.  Either way, garbage removal is a great process that will make you love your home once again.

Another great way to clean up your home is to remove the junk from your basement.  Many basements are filled with items that can only be classified as garbage.  You probably have boxes of old clothes that you can donate and several old newspapers, carpets and small appliances that you can throw away.  A good basement clean out can open up all kinds of new spaces within your home.  You can finally build the home bar, den or game room you’ve always wanted.

You may also want to look into carpet removal.  If you’ve lived in your home for a long time, your carpet may be worn, faded and dirty.  Replacing the carpet or installing new floors instead will make your living space feel brand new.

There’s just something satisfying about watching your home reveal its true self while dumpsters and garbage bins fill up.  You’ll wish you’d done it years ago!

Moving MonkeyMoving to a new home is a time of change.  You’ll have a new address, a new backyard and you’ll have to find a new route to work.  You may need to register your children in a new school.  There is definitely a lot of change going on.  In the spirit of change, moving is also a great time to get rid of a lot of the old clutter from your home.  There’s no sense in moving it with you and having it clutter up your new home, right?

Calling a junk removal company when you are moving just makes sense.  You will be able to move into your new home with less clutter and make a clean break from your old home.  It makes the process of moving in easier once you’ve gotten rid of your junk.

A good way to go about junk removal when you are moving is to move everything else out of the house.  Move as you normally would, just make a point to leave the items you no longer need behind.  Once everything else is gone, it’s time for junk removal.  You may want to place all of the unwanted items in one room, as this will make it easier for a junk removal company to dispose of them.

How do you decide what you no longer need?  Well, it starts off by looking at your new home.  If you have furniture that simply will not fit into your new space, it’s best to leave it behind.  Otherwise you will find yourself with another basement full of unwanted furniture and appliances at the new house.

Then you should start planning how you will position everything in your new home.  This can easily be done on paper or on a computer.  There will probably be items that you have chosen not to include in the layout of your new place.  These items can usually be thrown away.

The best part of using a junk removal service when you’re moving is that it’s easy.  Your old home will have nothing else in it so you don’t have to worry about accidentally throwing out the wrong things.  Plus, with less stuff in the old house, the junk removal company will be able to move around easier and finish their job faster.

You’ll then be left with an old, empty house and a new house that only has the items you actually need and want.  Once the moving truck leaves, pulling a dumpster up to your house is perhaps the best thing you could do.  Junk removal and moving just go together!

Where To Dispose of Hazardous Materials

JuNKiT staff are experts at furniture removal, appliance removal, carpet removal, construction material removal and many other types of junk removal.  However, as we are licensed by the Ministry of Environment, we are not able to dispose of hazardous materials.

Hazardous waste is anything that can cause damage or potential threat to public health or the environment.  This includes paint and other solvents, motor oil and antifreeze, florescent lighting, propane tanks, pesticides, smoke detectors and some types of batteries.  These items are considered household hazardous waste.  They must be disposed of in a proper manner.  They will not be collected with your standard garbage and cannot be disposed of by most junk removal companies, including JuNKiT.

So how do you safely dispose of hazardous materials?

Used motor oil can be taken to a used oil drop off centre in your area.  Other household hazardous materials can be taken to disposal centres.

Here are a few links to hazardous waste disposal centres in several regions in Southern Ontario:

JuNK iT is a junk removal service.  We remove junk, ranging from old appliance, worn furniture, construction waste and much, much more.   But we don’t necessarily always dispose of the items we pick up.

We prefer to be environmentally friendly whenever possible.  One of our goals at JuNK iT is to recycle as much of the material we pick up as possible.  On average, JuNK iT recycles up to 60% of everything we pick up.

We can recycle building products, appliances, concrete, asphalt and yard waste.  Our actions mean that less material goes into landfills and more goes to recycling plants.  When you use our full service option, we take care of the recycling for you.  You don’t need to request anything special and there’s no need for you to sort through your items and separate them.  Our staff is trained to look through everything and distinguish what can and cannot be recycled.

We know that your time is important and that you just want the junk out of your house as quickly and efficiently as possible. That’s what JuNK iT does better than anyone else. Our full service option is truly that: full service.  You can sit back and relax while JuNK iT takes care of everything, including the recycling.  Helping the environment shouldn’t be the more difficult option.

We also donate whatever we can to a variety of charities and non-profit organizations including Goodwill and Habitat for Humanity.

All of the recyclable materials are taken to a licensed recycling facility so you can rest assured that everything is handled in a responsible, efficient, safe manner.

It’s important to us that we do whatever we can to help the environment.  Recycling and donating is a big part of our business and we take that responsibility very seriously.

Colin and Justin’s Home Heist is a Canadian reality television show that airs on HGTV.  On the show two interior decorators, Colin and Justin, transform boring or ugly homes into interesting and stylish spaces.  The show is one of HGTV’s most popular programs.  When the show needed someone to clean up the junk from their renovations, they called Junk It.

Junk It is well known for our fast, affordable and reliable junk removal services.  We offer both full service and self service junk removal, dumpster rental, garbage pick up and garbage bin rental.

On the show, the two designers find homes in Toronto that they feel need a makeover.  They then set out to transform these spaces into dynamic new areas.  Junk It helped by making the junk removal process quick, easy and reliable.

The same is true for Canada’s Worst Handyman.  This show pits contestants against one another in a competition to avoid becoming known as “Canada’s Worst Handyman.”

Again, when the show needed quick, reliable, affordable junk removal services, they called Junk It.  We are well known for our effective, responsible junk removal services.

Both of these shows recognized what hundred of customers have already known: Junk It can make your home renovation or construction project much easier and more efficient.  Using our self service or full service garbage removal services is an excellent way to speed up your renovation process and make clean-up much, much easier.

Instead of worrying about post renovation cleaning, have the Junk It team come in and get rid of the waste.  Rather than traveling to the dump after a long day of work, fill up a Junk It dumpster or garbage bin and we’ll take it away when you’re done with it!  We’re here to make life easier for you!

If you’re interested in junk removal, furniture disposal, dumpster rental, appliance removal, carpet disposal or renovation material disposal, contact Junk It today!  Our prices are up to 10% cheaper than the competition.

A Few Charities Junk It Donates Goods To

Junk It and Charity

Junk It always strives to reuse and recycle as much of our clients’ junk as possible.  We take pride in the fact that we are able to recycle 60% of the material we pick up on average.  But we don’t just take the appliances, carpeting, electronics and furniture we pick up to recycling centres.  We always take whatever we can to not-for-profit organizations as well.

They say that “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” and this statement is often true.  Sometimes people throw away perfectly good items that can easily be reused.  A family that gets a new couch may decide to part with the old one.  A white dishwasher may not match with the new silver appliances in the kitchen, so it’s given to us.  Some families end up moving across the country and they have us pick up almost everything they own!  In these cases, and many other cases, we donate whatever we can to charity.

Here is a bit of detail on a few of the organizations we donate goods to:

Goodwill

Goodwill provides employment placement services, job training programs and other community-based programs for people that require them.  Clothing and other household goods donated to Goodwill are sold in retail stores across North America.  Goodwill generally accepts clothing and consumer electronic donations.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to building and selling affordable housing.  Volunteers build homes which are then sold at no profit.  They accept donations of building materials as well as other items that can be sold in their ReStore locations.

The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is an international movement to help the poor and hungry, regardless of age, gender, colour or creed.  They operate a network of thrift stores that resell donated clothing, housewares, toys and other items.

Junk It donates to these charities and several others, depending on each individual situation and the type of goods we receive.  If you are looking at junk removal, furniture removal, appliance removal or carpet removal, you can rest assured that Junk It will make all efforts to ensure your unwanted goods are given to those who need them.  When you’re cleaning out your home, you don’t need to worry about sorting materials and donating them separately.  Junk It can handle the donation and the disposal all at once.

Toronto Junk Removal Adventures: The Annex House

Junk Removal

Junk It can handle almost any junk removal or waste disposal job, no matter how big or small.  Our self service option offers a variety of disposal bins in a number of sizes.  If you only have a small amount of junk to get rid of, you can order our smallest bin and quickly and efficiently get the job done.  If you have more waste, we have larger bins available to help you out!

The same goes for our full service option.  Our trained Junk It staff will handle the entire process for you and you only pay for the space your junk takes up in the truck and the amount of time required to complete the job.

While Junk It can scale its process to handle jobs of any size, we have the most fun with the really big, difficult jobs.  What can we say?  We love a challenge!  One of those jobs was a two storey house in Toronto.  Our team worked hard to clean out this house and were very proud of the result.  It was definitely a big job and we handled it well.

This house was located in the Annex area of Toronto.  We were called in to clean out the entire home and told that there was a lot of junk!  Our Toronto junk removal team kept that in mind and took their trucks off to the house. Was there ever a lot  for us to get rid of!

The Junk It Toronto junk removal staff worked long and hard for many hours and cleaned out the entire house.  By the time they were done, they had taken a total of 20 truck loads of material from the house!  It was definitely a big job, but one that we were glad to tackle.  What made our team even more proud was the fact that we were able to recycle a large portion of the material.  Recycling as much as we can is very important to the Junk It philosophy.

Junk It specializes in furniture removal, carpet removal, appliance removal and more.  As you’ve seen from the adventure in the Annex house, no job is too big for our junk removal team!

The Junk Removal Process
