It’s also a good opportunity to reduce clutter that may have been difficult to give up before! In this list, we’ll go through the different living spaces and typical uses for the home so you can get a clear idea of what is needed. Anything else can go in your junk removal bin!

The Kitchen List

What you would consider essential depends how much of cook you are in the kitchen. Many professionals simply don’t have the time to make elaborate meals for themselves, while younger people often eat their meals with friends at a restaurant.

Regardless of which group you fall into, these are the necessities that every kitchen needs:

  • Can opener
  • Large wooden spoon
  • Plastic spatula
  • Pots
  • Dishware
  • Glasses
  • Pans

The Living Room List

Our list doesn’t include furniture, as that may vary depending on the space available and personal preferences. Instead we’ll list small furnishings that will make sure that you’re living comfortably and you won’t be leaving your guests with the impression that your home lacks basic necessities:

  • Coasters
  • Lamps for a well lit room
  • A storage unit for your media

The Bedroom List

Some people use their bedroom as an extension of their closet. If you live in a studio, it may not be feasible to keep the bedroom a single-use space. Our list of essentials will help you to keep the area around your bed clear enough so that you won’t be tempted to use your bed as storage during the day.

The essentials include:

  • Full length mirror
  • Lighting
  • A clothing hamper
  • Enough hangers for your clothes

You may also want to consider additional storage so that all your clothing will have a place to go while it’s not in use.

For the Bathroom

Our list is as minimal as it gets and leaves lots of room for personal touches. If you’re not one for excess furnishings, our list is perfect for you:

  • Shower curtain and shower curtain rings
  • Bath mat
  • Heavy duty plunger
  • Scale

Laundry Room

The laundry room will need the following items:

  • Laundry detergent
  • Iron and ironing board

Cleaning Closet

Even for those who use cleaning services, it’s still necessary to clean in the interim sometimes. The essentials below will give you everything you need to keep your home spotless:

  • All purpose cleaner
  • Bucket and mop
  • Broom and dust pan
